Ensign has been operating for more than 15 years, and became empowered in 2002 with the acquisition of 51% of the shareholding in Ensign Shipping and Logistics (ESL) by CBF Holdings Ltd, a PDI Investment company.

Since 2002 Ensign has focused its activities predominantly on landside logistics when it was awarded a supply chain contract by SA Breweries for the transportation and housing of malt from the Western Cape to KZN. Further contracts followed and Ensign Shipping and Logistics is now involved in the activities of several large supply chains in the wheat, paper, sugar, timber and maize industries.
In 2006 a transport division was added to its stable which supplies transport services in the long-haul, short-haul and multi-drop distribution sectors.

Another highlight of 2006 was Ensign's winning of the prestigious SAB-Miller supplier of the year award for the category Freight and Logistics, and first runner up in 2007. In addition, Ensign won a Mondi Global Diamond award for excellence in logistics in 2008/9.

In 2007 Ensign acquired an integrated silo warehousing complex in Umbilo in Durban which handles and stores grain and imported malt, general goods and also has a bagging facility, where it bags in excess of 1500 mts of food stuffs per month into different size bags from 50kg to 250g.

Ensign Shipping & Logistics (PTY) Ltd is dedicated to servicing supply chain contracts specialising in transportation, bulk storage and handling, silo operations and on site bagging facility.

Along with our specialised container tipper transport fleet our facility in Umbilo boasts 70 silos with a storage capacity of 25,000mts, a bagging plant with 5000mts bagging capacity and 6 bagging lines, 2 rail sidings, and road and rail weighbridges.

Available assets used to facilitate cargo handling include:
